Island to Inland - Kangaroo Island Art hits Adelaide

Tuesday, 4 July 2017

Island to Inland: contemporary art from Kangaroo Island opened at Flinders University City Gallery on Friday 30 June. The exhibition showcases new work by ten contemporary artists living and working in one of South Australia’s most remarkable locations.

Developed over the course of two years, these compelling and challenging works respond to themes of isolation, the island’s unique history and the rugged, natural beauty in which the artists are immersed on a daily basis. Find out more about the exhibition here. A blog by Islander Kathie Stove tracks the development of the art for this exhibition.

The opening was well attended with many works selling on the night. Guests heard from guest speakers John O’Malley, Senior Project Manager, Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources and Lisa Slade, Assistant Director, Artistic Programs, Art Gallery of South Australia.

This exhibition will be touring regional South Australia until 2019 so make sure you visit before 3 September.
